The Philosopher's Stone

Donates his collection of 17th–19th century alchemical paintings and funds to the Chemical Heritage Foundation (now Science History Institute), creating the Roy Eddleman Institute for the preservation and display of scientific art.

The Crucible: Crusade for a Cure

Establishes the Foundation for Educational Research and launches the annual volunteer-run Labor Day LA event, raising over $2 million to support AIDS patients at a time when government aid was nonexistent.

Age of Invention

Invents and patents the “fleaker,” a hybrid of the Griffin beaker and Erlenmeyer flask whose royalties help fund R & D at Spectrum Labs following the fleaker becoming standard laboratory glassware.

Mid 60's

Founds Spectrum Labs

Founds Spectrum Medical Industries (later Spectrum Labs), pioneering hollow-fiber and tubular mass transfer membranes for bioprocessing recombinant proteins and pharmaceuticals. Hires a professional assistant (a Hispanic immigrant in her twenties), who fast becomes his personal executive partner for the remainder of his life (now a co-trustee of the institute). A woman so important to his success he quipped with candor "I work for her!"
