Roy T. Eddleman’s estate donates a combined $64,725,000 to UCSB, UC Irvine, and Caltech through the Eddleman Quantum Institute, solidifying a collaborative quantum science ecosystem to advance research, education, and operations in quantum science.

The RSC's prestigious Horizon Prize for Education is awarded to the "Rare Earth Elements Project" Led by the Science History Institute, the initiative combined chemistry, history, and fine art to produce museum exhibits, podcasts, and curriculum materials exploring the societal impact of rare earth production

Held in Los Angeles on September 24, 2019. and hosted by acclaimed science correspondent Ira Flatow, this event brought together scientists, journalists, and the scientifically curious to consider the potentials and challenges of extracting and refining rare earth minerals.

2018
Explores Quantum Alliance
Roy funded a series of workshops and discussions on harnessing rare-earth discoveries and quantum computing and sensing.

Mid 80's
The Crucible: Crusade for a Cure
Establishes the Foundation for Educational Research and launches the annual volunteer-run Labor Day LA event, raising over $2 million to support AIDS patients at a time when government aid was nonexistent.

Mid 60's
Founds Spectrum Labs
Founds Spectrum Medical Industries (later Spectrum Labs), pioneering hollow-fiber and tubular mass transfer membranes for bioprocessing recombinant proteins and pharmaceuticals. Hires a professional assistant (a Hispanic immigrant in her twenties), who fast becomes his personal executive partner for the remainder of his life (now a co-trustee of the institute). A woman so important to his success he quipped with candor "I work for her!"

Early 1960
Fast and Curious
Enrolls at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill but leaves before graduating to pursue entrepreneurship in Los Angeles, selling laboratory equipment for the Scientific Products Company.

1958
In the News: Eddleman Builds a Laboratory at Home
As a high school student, Roy credits early hydroponics experiments to a spirited debate with his teacher; a Charlotte News reporter remarks that a simple science-exhibit assignment left him “lost” in conversation with Roy’s curiosity.

Roy Truman Eddleman is Born
Roy Truman Eddleman is born in Kannapolis, North Carolina, to Henry B. and Francis Miller Eddleman.
