Eddleman Donates $3million ($1M to Caltech, UCI, & UCSB) to Fund Quantum Innovation Programs
Roy T. Eddleman Foundation Expands Quantum Fellowships with $3 Million Gift
In a continued commitment to advancing quantum science, the Roy T. Eddleman Foundation has contributed a second gift of $1 million per institution to UC Santa Barbara, UC Irvine, and Caltech, totaling $3 million. This new funding significantly expands the Eddleman Fellowships in Quantum Science, supporting graduate students across the three campuses who are pursuing cutting-edge research in quantum technologies.
The fellowships, originally seeded through Eddleman’s estate as part of the broader $64.7 million investment in the Eddleman Quantum Institute (EQI), provide financial support, mentorship, and collaborative opportunities for emerging scientists. With this second round of funding, each university will be able to increase the number of graduate fellows, deepen interdisciplinary research, and strengthen the pipeline of talent in quantum science.
“The Eddleman Fellowships are a cornerstone of our mission to cultivate the next generation of quantum researchers,” said EQI Director William Evans. “This additional gift ensures that more students can engage in transformative work at the frontiers of physics, chemistry, and engineering.”
The fellowships are designed to foster collaboration across institutions, encouraging students to participate in joint conferences, shared research initiatives, and cross-campus mentorship. By investing in graduate education, the Eddleman Foundation continues to honor Roy T. Eddleman’s vision of empowering young scientists to shape the future of quantum discovery.
