A collaboration of scientists at Caltech, the University of California, Santa Barbara, and the University of California, Irvine, dedicated to advancing the frontiers of research and innovation through interdisciplinary collaboration and support of educational opportunities in quantum science.

Our Mission

At EQI, we are driven by the spirit of curiosity and exploration of founder Roy Eddleman.  We are committed to pushing the boundaries of fundamental research in quantum science and associated technology through interdisciplinary collaboration while simultaneously inspiring and educating the next generation of innovators. 

EQI arose from Roy Eddleman’s vision to establish a community of researchers and educators at  Caltech, UCSB, and UCI who work together to advance quantum science and education.

EQI serves as a central hub in Southern California for quantum science knowledge exchange, events, and collaborative opportunities.

Our Founder

Founder's Flame

EQI honors the vision and the legacy of our founder Roy T. Eddleman. The Institute is Roy's magnum opus. The Institute fulfills his lifelong desire to give all he had to build a temple for inquiry. He placed imagination, curiosity, collaboration, and exploration above all else. His final gift was not just generous, it was generational in establishing ongoing continual support for science.
